Comparing quotation and reorder workflows
Compare B2B quote negotiation and repeat purchasing, including changed terms, buyer actions and order visibility.
Quotation and reordering are separate buying paths. A quote carries a proposed price through negotiation and acceptance. A reorder begins with a past purchase or saved list, but still requires a fresh check of product, quantity, price and availability.
Follow a quote to an order
Use a basket containing a standard item and an item requiring a one-off price. Ask the vendor who can request, revise, accept or decline the quote, and what happens if it expires or stock changes. Check whether the final order carries the agreed terms and whether buyer and seller can see the decision history.
Adobe Commerce B2B documents buyer-initiated requests from the cart and seller-initiated quotes from the admin. Buyers and sellers can exchange revisions, with visible quote states. The B2B extension, company accounts and B2B quote feature must be enabled.
BigCommerce B2B Edition documents sales quotes and quote requests through its Buyer Portal. Confirm the proposed portal, roles and seller actions in the store configuration.
For Shopify B2B, test draft-order and checkout-review behaviour in the proposed configuration. Check who can create or review an order and whether negotiation history is retained. A draft-order invoice sent for payment does not, by itself, demonstrate a multi-round, buyer-initiated negotiation trail.
Test repeat buying separately
Start with a previous order containing one available item and one item whose terms have changed. Ask the buyer to create a new cart. Before submission, inspect item selection, current price, quantity rules, delivery location and payment terms. Copying an order should not be treated as a promise of its old price or stock.
For Shopify B2B, verify whether buyers can start repeat purchases from a past order, a saved list or a SKU-based workflow. BigCommerce B2B Edition’s Buyer Portal supports shared shopping lists and quick order by SKU or previously purchased products. Adobe Commerce B2B offers reusable requisition lists and an optional Quick Order feature for known SKUs, including file upload. Compare which starting point suits the customer: a past order, a maintained list or a SKU file.
| Path | Starting point | Decision to check |
|---|---|---|
| Quote | Proposed basket or seller offer | Who can change and accept terms before an order is created? |
| Reorder | Past order, saved list or known SKUs | What is checked again for the new order? |
These are comparison prompts, not a claim that every platform offers every route. If orders mostly repeat stable SKUs, prioritise a quick reorder with clear exceptions. If purchases often need a bespoke price, prioritise quote states, permissions and a usable history. Either way, include an interrupted path such as an unavailable item or declined quote.
